About Tara

Tara Kenny is a Certified Professional Midwife, Certified Lactation Counselor and Doula who has practiced in the Boston area since 2006, bringing 9 years of experience with pregnancy and childbirth to her practice.

Her interest in women’s health and pregnancy began while completing her BA degree in Sociology and Anthropology at Lewis and Clark College in 1999, where she traveled to Kenya to live and work in a rural hospital as part of her thesis on childbirth practices.

During college, Tara pursued her birth doula training through PALS (Pacific Association for Labor Support) and then went though CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association) for her postpartum doula training. She is also a Certified Infant Massage and Communication Instructor through the Foundation for Healthy Family Living.

Inspired to go further in this work, Tara undertook an intensive midwifery program through the Northern New Mexico Midwifery Center. She attended over 60 births through this program as an apprentice, as well as receiving comprehensive training on prenatal, postpartum and well-woman care through the National College of Midwifery. Upon completion of this program in 2006, she became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). Since receiving her certification, Tara has traveled to work in birth centers in Australia, Belize, and Senegal. She also became a Certified Lactation Counselor through The Healthy Children Project.

Tara is motivated by a strong belief that women and their families deserve compassionate and loving support throughout their childbearing years. Whether working as a midwife, doula, or in other capacities, her goal is to help women to make empowered and educated choices about childbirth and to provide much needed support in welcoming a new child into their home.
